Hamidiye

Hamidiye is a Kurdish tribe mentioned in sources; it is also known by the names Hamidî/Hammudî and is referred to as "Hamidiye" by İbnü’l-Esîr (Vol. 2, p. 64). İbn Havkal mentions this tribe along with Lariye and other communities (Vol. 2, p. 29).

El-Umerî writes that the Kurds belonging to the Hamidiye tribe possess all kinds of good qualities; that they are loyal, generous, and brave (Vol. 2, p. 64). Kalkaşendî estimates the number of tribe members in Ukr el-Hamidiye to be thirty thousand (Vol. 2, p. 112). In the Musul region, the place name "Akr el-Hamidiye" is also recorded (Vol. 2, p. 36).
