Talabani
Talabani is a Kurdish tribe that has been influential in Güney Kürdistan, especially in Süleymaniye and its surroundings. Its name appears among the influential tribes of the region in Osmanlı archive records.
Ottoman Period and Süleymaniye Rivalry
The historical significance of the tribe becomes evident in the struggle for dominance over Süleymaniye, located on the Osmanlı-Iran border during the period of the İttihat ve Terakki (İTC) governments. In this struggle, the Talabani tribe is mentioned alongside the Berzenci tribe, another powerful element of the region (). The same archive documents also reflect that during the II. Meşrutiyet period, the Osmanlı administration's policy towards Kurds operated in the direction of fragmenting the social structure and creating hundreds of local authorities upon this fragmentation; the Süleymaniye rivalry between Talabani and Berzenci is also interpreted within this framework ().

The name of the tribe is visible not only in political-military records but also in intellectual production concerning Kurdish history.
