Ali Emirî
Other names: Ali Emiri, Ali Emiri Efendi
Ali Emirî (Ali Emiri Efendi) is a scholar, publisher and collector known for the classification of documents mentioned by his own name in the Ottoman archive, the collection of books in the Osmanlı Tarih and Literature Magazine and the Fatih Millet Library (Volume 3, p. 47; Volume 4, p. 224; Volume 4 p. 52). The importance of the Kurdish historical research is the rich documentation of the archival classification of Kurdish cities and tribes, as well as the wide area of Diyarbekir in its publication (Volume 3, p. 46; Volume 4, p. 224). The classification is said to contain important information about the social, political and economic life of Kurdish history (Volume 3, p. 48). Among the records in this classification are documents relating to the degrees of the madrasa in Kurdish cities and the fees of the moderator; for example, it can be seen that in 1119/1707 Seyid Abdurrahman directed the Madrasa in Shucaiye in Amid, the capital of Diyarbekir, with 30 acces and delegated his duties by his own consent (Volume 3, p. 46). The same documents also contain records of the titles to which the Kurdish tribes are subject and the amount of taxes they pay; for example, the records of Rechi, Izeddin and Tovabihi titles from the Ekrad tribes subject to the Halep treasure (Volume 3, p. 46). The classification documents also contain material reflecting the power struggles of the Kurdish masters (Volume 3, p. 47), such as the appointment of the Bayezid flagbees and the records of the ascetics. The publisher of the Ottoman Journal of History and Literature was Ali Emiri Efendi, and most of the writings in the magazine belonged to him (Volumes 4, p. 224). Ali Emiri's aim in publishing the magazine was to find the history and literature of the Ottoman State and his works on the Ottomans and Turkish language inadequate (Volume 4, p. 224). Ali Emiri Efendi was also included in the writing staff of the daily political and scientific newspaper İkdam, published between 1894-1928, along with Samih Rifat, Abdurrahman Sheref, Selim Sırrı, Rıza Nur and Hüseyin Cahit (Volume 4, p. 202). The collection of "Ali Emiri Efendi's books" in the Fatih National Library is among the main collections containing copies of Ottoman historical writings; sources indicate that copies of some works are found in the History section of this collection (e.g. No. 552/1 and No. 131 records) (Volume 4, p. 52). The collection, along with institutions such as the Bayezid State Library, the Topkapı Palace Museum Library and the Turkish Historical Institution Library, is among the centers hosting copies of Ottoman chronicles containing information about the Kurds (Volume 4, p. 52).
