Diyarbekirli Said Paşa
Other names: Said Paşa
Diyarbekirli Said Pasha was a Diyarbakir poet and statesman who lived in the 19th century. He is best known for his work "Not Defteri" which includes his narratives about a wide region from Diyarbékir to Mosul and his historiography of 1885 to the Diyarbikir Vilayet Salnamesi (Volume 4, p. 257; Volume 4, s. 80). The importance of the book is that it describes Kurdistan as a geographical whole and that it deals with the period of Kurdish rulers as an independent title in the written history of the province (Volume 4, s. 80; Volume 4, p. 257). ## Notes Book Said Pasha's notes contain information about the history of cities, societies living in cities and their socio-economic conditions; the first part of the work is geography, the second part is about communities and peoples (Volumes 4, s 80). The region is divided into two parts: Cezire-i Mabeynü'n-nehyren and Kurdistan (Volume 4, p. 80). In the work, Diyarbekir/Amid, Atak, Erbil, Ergani, Ergan Madeni, Urfa, Babylonia, Bulanık, Bohtan (Botan), Hasankeyf, Dara, Tercil, Tikrit, Resulyn, Garzan, Kochhisar, Koyuncuk and Mardin were identified with a large number of settlements, according to their size and importance (Cilt 4, p. 80). In the Kurdistan article, the region is described as "Turkmen provinces called Armenia from the south, Diyarbekir from the west, Iraq from the southeast and Acem from the east and Azerbaijan from the north"; Botan is also mentioned along with Diyarbakir among the provinces and towns of Kurdistan (Volume 4, p. 80). The work was published under the title "Arifi Pasha's Diyarbekir Travels and Diyarbakir Said Pasha 's Regional Apartment Notes" by Bedri Mermutlu and published between the Publications of the Department of Nearby Languages and Cultures of Harvard University (Volume 4, p. 78). ##Salname Writing and "Hükkam-ı Kurdistan" II. Since the provincial salnames issued during Abdülhamid's reign were often printed in provincial prints, they were prepared by provincial officials, in which context Said Pasha wrote the second part of the Diyarbekir Provincial Salnames of 1885 (Volume 4, p. 257). Said Pasha started Diyarbekir's history with the words, "Diyarbakir province is a yellow circle with parts of the Cezire-i mabeynü'l-nehreyn-continent and northern parts of Kurdistan-the garbis of the Kurdistan continent". In this history, Diyarbekir's historical geography is characterized as surrounding the island called Mesopotamia, which is fertile and rich in terms of its underground and above-ground resources, and the other name of the city is given in Amid's short history (Volume 4, p. 257). The history of the Diyarbekir province in Salnam is generally concentrated after the Islamic conquests; periods such as the Hamdans, Mervans, Artulars, Ayyubids, Tatars, Ilhans, Karakoyunlu, Akkoyunlu and Safevillu have been reported (Volume 4, p. 257). Later, under the title "Hükkam-ı Kürdistan" (Kurdistan Judges), the period of the Kurdish nobles is given; in this section, the history of the Gizre, Palu, Hasankeyf, Zirki and Meyafarikin/Silvan orders of the Egyll and Chermik rulers of Mirdasi origin is given (Volume 4, p. 257).
