Şeyzerî
Other names: Münkız eş-Şeyzerî, Celâleddîn
Şeyzerî (Münkız eş-Şeyzerî, Celâleddîn), born in Şeyzer near Hama in 488/1095, is an Islamic scholar known for his work in the field of state administration (siyâsetnâme), who lived during the reign of the Ayyubid ruler Selâhaddîn-i Eyyûbî (Volume 1, p. 152). Detailed information about his life is not found in sources (Volume 1, p. 153).
Duties
He worked as a physician in Halep in 565/1169 and served as a preacher (hatiplik), judge (kadılık), and market inspector (muhtesiplik) in Filistin during the Selâhaddîn period (Volume 1, p. 153).
en-Nehcü'l-Meslûk
Şeyzerî, who authored numerous works in various fields, has two works presented to Sultan Selâhaddîn. The first of these is his work titled en-Nehcü'l-Meslûk fî Siyâseti'l-Mülûk, written about the intricacies and methods of state administration (Volume 1, p. 154).
Dedicated to Selâhaddîn to guide him in state administration and consisting of twenty chapters, en-Nehcü'l-Meslûk became one of the works frequently consulted by the Ottoman sultan I. Selim in later centuries (Volume 1, p. 154).
Ottoman Translations
The journey of the work in the Ottoman cultural world continued through translations. Keşanlı Nahîfî Mehmed Efendi translated the work into Ottoman Turkish (Tercemetü'n-Nehci's-sülûk fî siyâseti'l-mülûk, Bulak 1257; İstanbul 1256, 1286); the part between the first and sixth chapters of this translation - excluding some of the poems and stories - was later rendered into contemporary Turkish by Osman Arpaçukuru (Devlet Başkanının Nitelikleri, İstanbul 2003) (Volume 1, p. 154).
