Selâhaddîn (Selâhaddîn-i Eyyûbî / Selâhaddîn Yûsuf b. Necmeddîn Eyyûb) is the ruler who laid the foundations of the Eyyûbî dynasty (Vol. 1, p. 151) and established his dominion in Dımaşk (Vol. 1, p. 153).

Scholars of his era dedicated works to him: Şeyzerî presented two works to Sultan Selâhaddîn (Vol. 1, p. 154); Tarsûsî presented Tabsıratu Erbâbi’l-Elbâb to him before the Siege of Akka, which began in 1189 (Vol. 1, p. 155).

The Selâhaddîn era also stands out with its powerful bureaucrats. Individuals to be appointed as heads of Dîvâns were assigned according to the preferences of Kâdiyü’l-Fâzıl; Kâdı el-Fâzıl’s letters are primary sources for the political and cultural history of the period (Vol. 1, pp. 156-157). İmâdüddîn el-İsfahânî was also one of the important bureaucrats of the Nûreddîn Zengî and Selâhaddîn periods, compiling his memoirs in a work titled Berku’ş-Şâmî (Şam Şimşeği) (Vol. 1, pp. 158-159); İbn Memmâti, on the other hand, was appointed as the head of Dîvânülceyş by Selâhaddîn (Vol. 1, p. 160).
