Şerefnâme

Share

Şerefnâme, written by Şeref Han (Bitlisî), is one of the fundamental sources of Kurdish history (Volume 1, p. 145). The work begins with an introduction that mentions the genealogies of Kurdish tribes (Volume 1, p. 146).

Among the main sources concerning the Kurds, Şerefnâme is also counted, along with Muhassin es-Sâbî’s Kitâbü’t-Târîh, İbnü’l-Esîr’s el-Kâmil fi’t-Târîh, İbnü’l-Cevzî’s el-Muntazam, and Hamdullah el-Müstevfî’s Târîh-i Güzîde (Volume 1, p. 147). The work has also been translated into Arabic (Volume 2, p. 119).

Şerefnâme is a frequently referenced source by later works: Information regarding the piety of the people of Hizan is conveyed with reference to Şerefnâme (Volume 4, p. 40); studies on Kurdish tribes and tribal chieftaincies also rely on this work (Volume 2, p. 58).
