Şerefnâme
Other names: Cherefnameh, Şerefname
Sherefnâme is a major source work written by Sheref Khan (Bidlisî), which covers the history of the Kurdish tribes and the dynasties founded by the Kurds. The second volume tells the history of the Ottoman sultans from 689/1290 to 1005/1597 and their contemporaries, the rulers of Iran and Turan (Volume 1, p. 146). The Book of History of Muhassin al-Sabi, the Al-Kamil al-Tarih of Ibn al-Esir, the al-Muntazam of Ibn Al-Jawizi and the Al Ghaziid al-Ghazi of Hamdullah al-Mustuffi (Volume 1, p. 147) are among the principal works, and are frequently referenced by subsequent sources; for example, they are amongst the main sources for the political history of the Annázi dynasty, and the period of Ibn-al-Esí and the Sheref Hanázians lasted 130 years. In Sheref Han Bidlisi, the Lor Empires describes the members and rulers of the Grand and Small Lor Emirates, the dramatic events that these dynasties experienced, as well as their relations with the Seljuks, Mongols and Ottomans (Volume 2, p. 58). A writer describing the Ottoman-Iranian border in the century, referring to Sherefnâme, writes that the people in Hizan were Muslims, rising and worshiping at night and in the morning (Volume 4, p. 40). In his collection Sources: Historiography and Modern Editions, Sheref Han Bitlisi (1543-1603) clarifies the date of completion of the modern literary work. He completed Sherefnâme in 1596, which deals with the history of the ruling families of the Kurdish emirates and is described as a work of deep knowledge (erudite). The full English translation and lyrics of the work, entitled "The Sharafnâma or the History of the Kurdish Nation", were prepared by M. R. Izady and published by Mazda Publishers in Costa Mesa in 2005 (Collection: Bitlîsî/Izady, The Sharavnâma, PDF s. 1-3). He first introduced Sherefnâme to the scientific world on the basis of his Saint Petersburg copy (JA, VIII [1826], p. 291-298), then the work was published in two volumes by V. Velyaminov-Zernov (Cherefnameh ou histoire des Kourdes, par Scheref, Prince des Bidlis, Saint Petersburg 1860-1862). It has been translated into many languages. - Volume 1, p. 146.
